About the Game

Kiwi Cat Rooftop Dash is an original endless runner from Kiwi Cat Games starring the site mascot, Kiwi Cat. Wearing a little kiwi-slice backpack, it runs forward automatically across apartment rooftops styled after Taiwan's old streets. All you do is jump and slide.

The rooftops are crowded with sheet-metal add-ons, potted plants, air-conditioner units, steel water tanks and laundry racks full of clothes, and there are gaps between buildings to leap across. Collect fish snacks along the way for extra points – and the farther you run, the faster it gets.

As you run, the sky changes from day to dusk, night and dawn. Sometimes it rains, and at night the windows of faraway apartments light up one by one. A run lasts about 1 to 5 minutes, and your high score is saved in your browser. All characters, scenery and sounds were drawn and synthesized in code.

How to Play Kiwi Cat Rooftop Dash

1. Press Start Game. Kiwi Cat starts running to the right across the rooftops on its own.
2. Tap the screen (or press Space) to jump. Hold longer to jump higher, and tap again in mid-air to double jump.
3. When you reach a laundry rack full of clothes, swipe down (or press ↓) to slide underneath.
4. Jump the gaps between buildings and collect fish snacks: 5 points per fish snack plus 1 point for every meter you run.
5. Hit an obstacle or fall off the roof and the run ends.

Controls

Phone and tablet

• Tap anywhere to jump; hold your finger down a little longer to jump higher.
• Tap again in mid-air for a double jump.
• Swipe down to slide. Swiping down in mid-air drops you quickly to the ground.
• Holding your phone sideways gives a bigger view; upright works too, with the screen scaled down.
• Top right pauses the game or mutes the sound.

Computer

• Space, ↑ or W jumps. Hold it longer to jump higher, and press again in mid-air to double jump.
• ↓ or S slides, and holding it keeps you sliding. Pressing it in mid-air drops you quickly.
• You can also click the screen to jump.
• Top right pauses the game or mutes the sound.

Tips and Strategy

• How long you hold jump decides how high you go. A quick tap clears plants and AC units; water tanks need a longer press or a double jump.
• For gaps between buildings, take off close to the edge of the roof to jump the farthest. If you're falling short, add a double jump in mid-air.
• Save your double jump instead of using it right away – it can rescue a jump that was too early or too short.
• Start sliding early when you see a laundry rack; the slide lasts a short while. On a computer, hold ↓ to keep sliding until you're through.
• Once things speed up, keep your eyes a little to the right of center so you spot the next obstacle and gap sooner.
