About the Game

Kiwi Cat Yarn Sort is an original color sorting puzzle from Kiwi Cat Games. All of Kiwi Cat's yarn balls have been mixed up. Each basket holds up to 4 balls, and you can move the top ball (or a run of same-colored balls on top) from one basket to an empty basket or onto a basket whose top ball is the same color. When every basket is full of 4 balls of one color, you clear the level.

There's no limit on levels, which grow from 3 colors to 12, and the computer solves every level before you get it, so each one can be cleared. From level 12, mystery levels hide the colors of buried balls until you uncover them; from level 25, challenge levels give you only 1 empty basket. Each level awards 1 to 3 stars based on how many moves you use.

Stuck? Undo takes back a move, Hint shows a good next move, and Add Basket gives you an extra empty basket. If colors are hard to tell apart, turn on Color Assist and each color gets its own symbol. All the yarn balls, baskets and sounds were drawn and synthesized in code by Kiwi Cat Games, and your progress is saved in your browser.

How to Play Kiwi Cat Yarn Sort

1. Press Start Game, then choose Continue to play your current level or pick any unlocked level from the list.
2. Tap a basket to pick up the top ball (along with any matching balls right below it).
3. Tap another basket to drop them in. It has to be empty or have the same color on top, with room left (4 balls per basket max).
4. When every basket holds 4 balls of a single color, you clear the level. Finished baskets sprout cat ears.
5. Fewer moves earn more stars: finish within the target shown at the top for 3 stars.

Controls

Phone and tablet

• Tap baskets: the first tap picks up the yarn, the second drops it in another basket. Tap the same basket to put it back.
• Buttons at the bottom: Undo, Hint, Restart and Add Basket. Top left goes back to the level list; top right pauses or mutes.

Computer

• Click baskets: the first click picks up the yarn, the second drops it in another basket.
• You can also play with just the keyboard: arrow keys move the pink cursor, Enter or Space picks up and drops. U is Undo, H is Hint, R is Restart, Esc cancels.
• Top left goes back to the level list; top right pauses or mutes.

Tips and Strategy

• Empty baskets are precious. Stack balls onto matching colors first and only use an empty basket when there's no other option.
• Go after colors that are nearly done – for example, if three balls of one color are showing on top of different baskets, gather them first.
• In mystery levels, move the balls on top out of the way to reveal the hidden ones before deciding where things go.
• Made a mistake? Don't restart – just Undo one step. You get 5 undos per level.
• For 3 stars, don't use Add Basket and finish within the target number of moves.
