About the Game

Yarn Double Up is an original number-merging puzzle from Kiwi Cat Games. A 4×4 yarn basket holds numbered yarn balls. Every swipe rolls all of them as far as they can go in one direction, and when two balls with the same number bump together, they merge into one ball with double the number.

Every number has its own yarn color: 2 is pink, 4 is sky blue, 8 is kiwi green and so on. The bigger the number, the cuter the ball – cat ears appear from 64, whiskers from 256, and keep merging and a kiwi slice pops on top. The mascot Kiwi Cat sits beside the basket to keep you company and gets excited when you make a big one.

A game takes about 3 to 15 minutes, depending on how long you can last. Your high score and the biggest yarn ball you've ever made are saved in your browser. All yarn ball designs and sounds were drawn and synthesized in code by Kiwi Cat Games.

How to Play Yarn Double Up

1. Press Start Game. Two small yarn balls appear in the basket.
2. Swipe up, down, left or right and every yarn ball rolls to that side.
3. When two balls with the same number collide, they merge into one with double the number, and the new number is added to your score.
4. After every swipe, a new 2 or 4 appears in an empty spot.
5. When the basket is full and no neighboring balls share a number, the game is over.

Controls

Phone and tablet

• Swipe up, down, left or right on the screen and the yarn balls move that way.
• Top right pauses the game or mutes the sound.

Computer

• Use the arrow keys or W, A, S, D to move the yarn balls.
• You can also click and drag on the screen, just like swiping on a phone.
• Top right pauses the game or mutes the sound.

Tips and Strategy

• Pick one corner as the home for your biggest ball (say, the bottom left) and stick to two or three swipe directions so it never leaves the corner.
• Fill the row with your biggest ball and line the numbers up from largest to smallest moving away from the corner, so merges chain upward.
• Avoid swiping away from your corner. If you have to, swipe back right away to push the big ball home.
• One swipe can make several merges at once. Check which direction merges the most before you move.
